Can’t take any more… The Big Apple is burning by heat wave. Extremely hot weather hit NYC these days and the temperature reaches mid 90’s and heat index is around 105 degrees for four days since last weekend.

Expecting a thunderstorm this evening to cool the heat down…

All humans are affected by optical illusions that enable us to see into the future, but not very far, according to a researcher at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York…. our visual system that has evolved to compensate for neural delays, generating images of what will occur one-tenth of a second into the future.

Jury Duty

This is my second time in five years to be summoned to jury duty… Still remember the first time showed up in court in 2003, having no newspaper/books to kill time, it was so boring.

Today, sitting in juror waiting room in a rainy day… thanks to Wi-Fi technology and generousness of U.S government, I’m able to use court’s wireless network to surf the net and write this post.

A few jurors have been called for the first case, and I’m still waiting for my turn. Hopefully, there is an easy case for me if I get called…

AppleInsider: New MacBook Coming Soon

The update version of MacBook will be available in the third quater of this year according to Apple’s overseas source suppliers. Like Apple’s aluminum iMacs and MacBook Air, the company is using Aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel for this update model.

Both the MacBook and MacBook Pro are expected to receive “Montevina”-based processors from the Intel’s upcoming Centrino 2 platform, which require a new “Socket B” logic-board. The second-gen mobile Penryn chips boast a 1066MHz front-side bus and clock between 2.26GHz and 2.8GHz.

Running Mac OS X Leopard on generic PC components and without modifying the Kernel, how does it works?

…engineers at Psystar appear to be emulating parts of the Mac firmware on a Windows PC — fooling Leopard into thinking it’s running on top of genuine Apple hardware. Philips Brand in U.S market

Philips lighting business becomes one of the biggest lighting fixtures manufacturers in North American after complete acquisition of Genlyte Group in early 2008. On the other hand, this Dutch consumer electronic giant is uncompetitive in U.S TV market. Philips licensed it TV brand to Funai, a Tokyo based company who already sells some not well-known consumer brands electronics in US such as Emerson, Sylvania.  The company will no longer manufacture TVs for sale in US and Canada but collecting loyalties instead.

As the price for flat-panel TVs continues to fall, Philips lost the compititon to Sony and Samsung. However, Its medical equipment unit, lighting business and other electronics are still top brand in the world.

HP Announced Mini-Note PC Release

The world’s largest PC maker announced the release of mini-notebook today… Guess whose processors? Not Intel, not AMD, but using Via Processors, the third-ranked player in processor market. The mini PC starts under $500 for Linux-based version and charges up around $1200 for Vista model.

The Mini-Note will compete with Intel’s Classmate PC and Asustech’s Eee PCs
